Iron Vine Security: Building a Culture of Cybersecurity Success

Cyberspace and its underlying infrastructure are vulnerable to a wide range of risks stemming from both physical hazards and cyber threats. The threat landscape has grown exponentially, and enterprises must adopt strategies and measures to balance critical factors such as people and processes alongside technology adoption. Though technology is at the helm of this trifecta, the need of the hour is to find uniquely tailored security strategies bolstered by intelligence and highly-skilled resources that align solutions with the organizations’ Cybersecurity goals. “We are a pure cybersecurity company, which is quite unusual in the Federal Government contracting world. We take pride in having experts who are both practitioners and enthusiasts in the field of cybersecurity,” begins William Geimer, the President of Washington, DC-based Iron Vine Security. The company’s specialization rests in developing technical risk management solutions for public and private sector enterprises to assist them in securing their systems, networks, and, most importantly, sensitive data.

Geimer recalls the time when he and the other two founding partners of Iron Vine Security, Brent C. Duckworth and Jason Figley started the company. According to Figley, “Our goal was to build the kind of company that we always wanted to work for -- with a minimum amount of bureaucracy and an emphasis on technical training for the team members.” Iron Vine Security builds and runs Cybersecurity programs using commercial off-the-shelf and custom software tools.

“We also implement security orchestration, automation, and response systems (SOAR) for our clients, which is the next level of maturity, in developing security operation centers,” says Geimer. Additionally, Iron Vine provides the entire range of Cybersecurity services including penetration testing services, forensics and malware analysis, security engineering, policy development, and Cybersecurity training, to name a few.

Iron Vine has developed a Cyberthreat Intelligence platform that identifies relevant and actionable Cyber Intelligence that is customized for each client. Geimer highlights a recent project where they built a cyber threat intelligence model for one of their largest clients.

It ultimately turned out to be a game-changing experience for the client as they were able to identify previously unknown threats they were exposed to and immediately take necessary countermeasures to reduce the threat.

With many such success stories, Iron Vine Security was recently named the 2019 Corporate Growth Company of the Year (under 25 million dollars) by ACG National Capital, the region’s preeminent association for corporate professionals involved in middle-market growth, corporate development, and M&A.

Duckworth attributes the company’s success to its culture and workforce. “The goal is to invest in our employees’ careers so that they remain experts in their field,” he says. This has the added benefit of helping to retain the top talent in the industry. The company has a remarkable employee retention rate of over 90 percent. As they continue to invest in and grow the company, Iron Vine Security has improved their corporate quality, processes, and procedures with their quality program certifications (CMMI SVC LVL 3, ISO9001:2015, ISO2000, and ISO27001). The company is also investing heavily in cyber threat intel to provide more relevant and contextualized intelligence so that their clients can be more proactive in managing the security of their systems.
