Scott Elliott, Vice President
Security breaches have become more prevalent than ever as the rising sophistication, stealth, and persistence of cybercriminals continue to plague businesses worldwide. In 2019 alone, there were more than 3800 reported cybersecurity breaches in the U.S. While some of them were minor nuisances, others presented significant threats to the overall security posture, health, and safety of enterprises. With physical access control and security management systems being more connected than ever, businesses are becoming increasingly vulnerable to sophisticated attackers. To this end, there is a pressing need for reliable security solutions that can provide protection in an ever-evolving and pervasive threat environment while ensuring seamless business continuity and utmost safety. Enter Gallagher. With an extensive experience of 30 years in the security industry, the company delivers integrated security solutions that are designed to meet the varying needs of customers, from basic access control right through to critical sites with some of today’s highest security requirements.
As a Global ISO 9001 accredited electronic security solutions provider, Gallagher serves customers in the U.S. along with global civilian agency governments and clients across the defense, utilities, transportation, corrections, education, mining, financial, and healthcare industries. “Across all industries, Gallagher’s security solutions protect our customers’ world,” states Scott Elliott, Vice President of the Americas for Gallagher.
Gallagher understands the reputational damage, unanticipated operational disruptions, and data loss that cybersecurity breaches can bring about. Elliott mentions that as new threat vectors continue to emerge, organizations are increasingly transitioning from role-based to attribute-based access control models, and further beyond to intent-based access control—underpinned by AI and predictive analytics—for proactively mitigating security incidents. Besides, data being the “new gold,” there is an emerging trend toward integrating security management platforms into the enterprise as another set of data points to streamline security operations.
At the heart of Gallagher’s integrated security solutions lies Gallagher Command Centre. Designed to configure, manage, and report on all aspects of security systems, it integrates access control, intruder alarms management, perimeter security, and business policy execution while providing a single user interface across a broad spectrum of functionality. More importantly, Gallagher’s foundational principle is to focus on the security of security starting at the supply chain, with full control of the entire manufacturing process. The company’s security reviews program covers third-party products and libraries, as well as core Gallagher code.
As a company, we are on a mission to deliver a greater volume of compelling sustainable business value to our customers, partners, and colleagues
“We own the entire supply chain, and, as a result, we have complete control over every single component that goes into the native Gallagher Command Centre,” says Elliott. Gallagher also secures the components from an authentication and tampering perspective by providing strong cryptographic mechanisms through a 140-2 level 3 key store with public-private key pair, which makes it impossible to add an unauthorized device to the Command Centre security management ecosystem. Elliot notes, “We look at data in transit and at rest in both the controller and database while monitoring the provisioning of credentials to provide an end-to-end security management system.”
Gallagher initiates every client engagement with a discovery phase where the company comprehends the customer’s unique risks, challenges, and opportunities and lead from a position of a primary stakeholder in the development of the overall solution. “As a company, we are on a mission to deliver a greater volume of compelling sustainable business value to our customers, partners, and colleagues, and it all starts at gaining an in-depth understanding of customers’ business goals all the way to helping them procure, develop, and implement a solution,” mentions Elliott.
Additionally, Gallagher supports the core competency of its solutions with additional professional services and 24/7 global technical support. Further, the company believes strongly in patching and updating systems on a regular basis, which allows them to not only deliver a richer feature-set but also to mitigate the vulnerabilities that impact aging technology. Gallagher endorses transparency. So much so that it publishes known vulnerabilities to ‘The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE)’ list, which is managed by The MITRE Corporation—a non-profit government research agency. Gallagher also employs internal penetration testing and quality assurance reviews, along with an automated testing platform to eliminate vulnerabilities in the operating systems running on its network.
What differentiates Gallagher from its competitors is the innovative culture that the company fosters. Apart from an incredible product that has been tested by some of the world’s leading government agencies, it is the company’s culture that really makes the difference. With an agile, nimble, and responsive team, Gallagher has indeed carved a unique niche in the security space and will continue to invest heavily in research and development while building global partnerships. “We care, and that’s what matters. As a team, we respect and trust each other and are authentic and transparent. We are committed to sustainability and are focused on improving our customers’ world. To that end, we readily embrace change and have the capability to evolve accordingly,” informs Elliott. In the future, it won’t be any different for Gallagher. “We will continue to leave the world more secure and safer than we found it.”
